Twenty years before the advent of screens and computer mice, the Oramics optical synthesizer transformed the composer from a performer into an artist. Abandoning the traditional approach to the interface, Daphne Oram drew sound directly onto 35mm film, forcing light to physically shape it.
From the Telharmonium, which streamed sound over telephone wires at the end of the 19th century, to music written by AI.
